Indian numerology (ank jyotish) takes two numbers from your date of birth. Each is ruled by one of the nine grahas.
Mulank: the day you were born
Add the digits of your birth day until one digit is left.
- Born on the 14th → 1 + 4 = 5
- Born on the 29th → 2 + 9 = 11 → 1 + 1 = 2

Bhagyank: the whole date
Add every digit of your full date of birth.
- 14-05-1990 → 1+4+0+5+1+9+9+0 = 29 → 2+9 = 11 → 2

What about your name?
The name number uses the Chaldean system, where each letter carries a value from 1 to 8. Many families adjust the spelling of a child's or a business's name so its number supports the Mulank or Bhagyank.

A simple use of your mulank: dates that reduce to a friendly number are considered good for starting things. For a mulank 1, that is the 1st, 10th, 19th and 28th (all reduce to 1), and also dates reducing to 2, 3 and 9.

What if my mulank and bhagyank are the same? The theme is concentrated — what you are and where you are going point the same way.
What if they are unfriendly? It is read as an inner tension to manage, not a defect. Numerologists often suggest a name number that bridges the two.
