How this works

  • For naamkaran we keep days whose weekday is traditionally favoured, and within them the hours when both the tithi and the nakshatra are among those the texts recommend.
  • Rikta tithis (Chaturthi, Navami, Chaturdashi), Amavasya, Bhadra (Vishti karana) and the inauspicious yogas are left out, and so are Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika Kaal.
  • Chaturmas, Kharmas and Adhik maas are skipped where tradition avoids them for this ceremony.

Common questions

What does this muhurat finder check?

The panchang only: weekday, tithi, nakshatra and yoga, and it leaves out Bhadra, Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika Kaal, and Chaturmas, Kharmas or Adhik maas where tradition avoids them. It does not look at anyone’s chart or at Guru–Shukra asta.

Why are there no griha pravesh dates in some months?

Tradition avoids griha pravesh during Chaturmas — from Devshayani Ekadashi to Devuthani Ekadashi, roughly July to November — and during Kharmas, when the Sun is in Sagittarius or Pisces. The finder then opens on the next month that has a shubh day.

Is a calendar muhurat enough for a wedding?

No. A marriage muhurat is fixed from both people’s charts, so this tool does not offer one. Ask an astrologer with both sets of birth details.
